Overview: As a Group Exercise Instructor, you will lead members through structured exercise classes designed to enhance their fitness, strength, and endurance while prioritizing safety. Additionally, you will serve as a valuable resource, educating members on various fitness topics and helping them achieve their fitness goals.

Key Responsibilities:

Pre-Class Preparation:

  • Arrive 10-15 minutes before the scheduled start time to interact with members, answer questions, track fitness progress, and welcome new participants.
  • Develop strong relationships with participants and understand their individual fitness levels.
  • Wear appropriate fitness attire that allows participants to observe proper form and movement. Clothing should be modest and, when possible, include World Gym branded attire. Proper footwear is mandatory.
  • Prepare suitable music for the class, ensuring it is cued and free of offensive language.
  • Verify that all equipment is functioning properly and have microphones ready.
During Class Responsibilities:

  • Introduce yourself and outline the class format.
  • Identify any first-time participants and discreetly assess their fitness levels.
  • Ensure verbal instructions are clear, and the environment (music volume, tempo) supports learning, safety, and enjoyment.
  • Monitor participants continuously, ensuring correct form and offering modifications to accommodate varying fitness levels.
  • Foster a motivating and enjoyable atmosphere for all participants.
Post-Class Responsibilities:

  • Remove and store music and microphone equipment properly.
  • Ensure the room is prepared for the next class.
  • Address any questions or concerns from participants.
  • Solicit and gather feedback from participants about the class.
Additional Responsibilities:

  • Start and end classes on time, adjusting the class flow as needed to stay on schedule.
  • Follow proper closing procedures if teaching the last class of the day, as outlined by the Group Exercise Director.
  • If unable to teach a scheduled class, find a qualified substitute and notify the Group Exercise Director if assistance is needed.
  • Demonstrate reliability and consistency in maintaining class schedules, minimizing the need for substitutes or cancellations.
  • Attend required staff meetings as needed.
  • Accurately record time and ensure compliance with timekeeping procedures.
  • Prepare incident or witness reports in the event of accidents.
  • Maintain a positive and professional demeanor in all interactions with colleagues, members, and responsibilities.
Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Knowledge of safe exercise techniques and group exercise principles.
  • Understanding of basic physiology and body mechanics.
  • Ability to perform and instruct a variety of exercise routines.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in operating and troubleshooting audio equipment.
  • Specialized instructors (e.g., Yoga, Pilates, Body Pump) must provide verifiable proof of education.
  • Group fitness certification is required.
Compensation: $20.00 - $35.00 per hour
